Beautiful Valentine's Heart Cookies....
These lovely cookies are actually made from a white
cake mix and pre-made chocolate cake frosting! My Mom reminded me of this
recipe today and we thought it was just perfect to share with all of you
for the month of February. My sister came up with the ingenious idea of
making red sugar heart decorations on the top of each cookie. Thank you so
much to my Mom and sister for all of their help and ideas that went into
making this recipe what it became. Now, let's get to baking!
Next, add the eggs and vegetable oil.
Now you're ready for the food coloring....
My sister started mixing the dough together with a spoon - and finished it off kneading by hand.
Next, pinch off a portions of dough and rolled them in your hands. Its a good idea to spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray before you begin to roll the dough since this step can get a little sticky! Place the cookies on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Rolling the dough into one-inch portions.... unbaked cookies ready to be flattened! :)
Bake your cookies in the oven on 375*F. for 6 - 8 minutes. Our first batch took 8 minutes - the rest took 6! When the cookies come out, place them on a cooling rack to completely cool.
You cookies should look something like this....
And now, for my favorite part...the frosting! When your cookies are completely cool, frost them with your choice of pre-made cake frosting like so....
Frosting the cookies....YUM!
Last but not least, my sister came up with the idea
to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make a red sprinkle heart shape on
the top of each cookie. Here's how she did it...
Step 1: Place cookie cutter on top of frosted cookie....
Share these cookies with your loved ones and enjoy! Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
